Iowa supervision rules require that an eligible supervisor:

Holds an active independent Iowa license (independent social worker, mental health counselor, or marital and family therapist)
Has a minimum of three years of independent practice
Has completed at least a six-hour continuing education course in supervision (or one graduate-level course in supervision)

● Explain Iowa’s supervisor requirements, including eligibility and the six-hour supervision training requirement

● Design a written supervision plan that meets Iowa requirements (mode/frequency, goals, parties, methodology, tracking)

● Apply ethical and legal standards relevant to supervision and independent licensure in Iowa

● Use evidence-informed supervision models and techniques to match supervisee needs

● Implement evaluation and feedback strategies, including documentation of outcomes

● Address risk management concerns (impairment, ethical breaches, oversight, transition to independent practice)

Continuing Education (CEs)

● EMDR & Beyond is the provider of CEs.

● Certificates are awarded online after completion of the workshop (attendance verification + evaluation opportunity).

● EMDR & Beyond is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists; EMDR & Beyond remains responsible for this program and its contents.

● To receive CEs for live virtual trainings, participants must attend the entire program in real time. Partial credit is not available, and watching a recording in place of attending live does not qualify for credit.

Instructor

Kenya Rocha, MS, LMHC, NCC is an EMDR therapist, trainer, and clinical leader. She is a national and international EMDRIA Approved Basic Trainer and serves as CEO/Owner of Mosaic Family Counseling Center, Inc. She is known for training and supporting clinicians through ethical challenges and developing supervision training programs.

What you receive (templates + handouts)

You will receive several handouts related to ethical supervisory practices, documentation guidelines, how to assess and evaluation the competencies of your supervisee, guidance on the Iowa Code, relationship management, prevention assessment and detection of clinician impairment, supervisory packet of information including a template for the supervisory contract and supervision plan.
