I also provide couples counseling using Emotionally Focused Therapy. My goal is to help each person feel understood and supported as we work together to build skills, increase insight, and move toward a healthier, more fulfilling life.

My approach to therapy is grounded in psychodynamic and Adlerian principles, with a strong emphasis on understanding the whole person within their life context. I believe in the importance of a safe, collaborative therapeutic relationship where clients feel empowered, supported, and respected. I also integrate a range of therapeutic methods—tailored to each person’s unique needs and goals—drawing from evidence-based practices to promote insight, healing, and meaningful change. Therapy with me is holistic and culturally responsive, centered on honoring your lived experience and working together to foster greater mental wellness and life satisfaction.

Can Rebecca provide therapy for couples, family or children in central Iowa?

When working with families & children, I use developmentally appropriate techniques, including play therapy, to help them express emotions, build coping skills, and navigate challenges in a safe and engaging environment. I also partner with caregivers throughout the process to ensure consistent support both in and out of the therapy space. With over a decade of experience as an educator, I bring a deep understanding of the emotional and behavioral needs of children and how to meet them with empathy, structure, and creativity.

When working with couples, I focus on helping partners reconnect, communicate more effectively, and navigate conflict with empathy and understanding. I primarily use Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), a research-based approach that helps couples identify and shift negative patterns while strengthening emotional bonds. Whether you're facing ongoing relationship stress, recovering from a rupture in trust, or simply looking to grow closer, I offer a supportive and nonjudgmental space where both partners feel heard and valued. Together, we’ll work toward building a more secure, respectful, and fulfilling relationship.

What makes Rebecca’s approach unique compared to other therapists in Des Moines?

What sets me apart is my deep commitment to providing thoughtful, compassionate care across the lifespan. With over 12 years of experience as an educator in Des Moines Public Schools, I bring a unique understanding of child and adolescent development, along with the systems that impact them. I also work extensively with adults and couples, using a flexible and integrative approach that meets you where you are in your journey. Whether we’re using play therapy with a child, EMDR to process trauma, or Emotionally Focused Therapy to strengthen a couple’s connection, I am committed to walking alongside you with empathy, clinical skill, and a deep respect for your story.

Can Rebecca work with clients experiencing grief, loss, or life transitions?

Grief can be one of the most profound and personal experiences we go through. I offer a compassionate and steady presence as you process the emotions that come with loss, whether related to death, a relationship, identity, or a major life transition. Together, we will explore the meaning of your grief, honor what you've lost, and work toward healing and hope in a way that respects your pace and experience.

How does Rebecca support clients in building coping skills and resilience?

I meet you where you are and develop a comprehensive plan that suits your goals. Using known methods, best practices and evidence based therapies, I teach, provide skills, remind you of your resilience & strengths, become curious, consult, counsel and provide therapy for symptoms that interfere with your happiness and day to day life.

What should I expect in my first session with Rebecca?

Our first session is a chance to begin getting to know each other and to create a foundation of safety and understanding. We’ll start by reviewing the service agreement, informed consent, and other important information about your rights and confidentiality.

After that, we’ll begin a comprehensive assessment to better understand your needs, strengths, and goals. This process helps us clarify what’s been happening in your life and how I can best support you moving forward.

Although the assessment will have some structure, you are welcome to share at your own pace — there’s no rush. The goal of this first meeting is to start building a collaborative partnership focused on your healing and growth.

Does Rebecca offer EMDR Therapy?

Yes. I offer EMDR Therapy - eye movement desensitization and reprocessing therapy & provide integrative modalities with EMDR to meet your specific needs.
